Homer B. Rhoades, 88, of Slater, died, Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Slater. Rev. Robert Sisney will officiate. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ron McCoy, Rex Beltz, Dennis Reidenbach, Harry Whitlock, Wayne Reidenbach and David Jeter. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Slater Veterans Memorial Park in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born Jan. 12, 1919, near Slater, he was the son of the late Forrest T. and Florence Reidenbach Rhoades. On Nov. 20, 1941, in Slater, he married Anna Johnson, who survives of the home. He was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church in Slater, where he served as a deacon for over 40 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 78 and VFW Post 4367, both in Slater. He worked for Standard Oil Company for many years before his retirement in 1975.
Also surviving is his daughter, Marliese Reeves and her husband, Glen, of Tempe, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Philip Reeves of Dana Point, Calif., and Andrea Sloter of Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Priscilla Rhoades, and a sister, Dorothy Newton.
