Metta Belle King, 83, of Mapleton, Iowa, formerly of rural Marshall, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Maple Heights Care Center in Mapleton.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Nelson Cemetery in Nelson, with Rev. Michael Lockhart officiating. Friends may call Friday, prior to the service, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Nelson Cemetery or Alzheimer's Association. Born Sept. 5, 1924, in Maryville, she was the daughter of the late Elwood Shinabargar and Metta Belle Sexson Shinabargar. On Dec. 25, 1940, she married Willis E. Alfrey, who preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1975. On Sept. 24, 1977, she married John W. King, who preceded her in death on June 4, 2001. She had lived in Saline County most of her life and was a retired bookkeeper with Nelson Elevator. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sedalia.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Fox of rural Blackwater, and Debra Cornine and her husband, Ron, of Danbury, Iowa; four grandchildren, Nicole Howery, Michelle Swanson, Tiffany Hughes and Joseph Christopher; eight great-grandchildren, Alex Howery, Kennedy Swanson, Camryn Swanson, Allison Christopher, Grace Christopher, Emma Christopher, Jackson Hughes and Piper Lynne Hughes; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynne Christopher; one grandson, Bill Siefkas; six brothers, Harmon Shinabargar, Charles Shinabargar, Adrian Shinabargar, Claude Shinabargar, Austin Shinabargar and Joe Shinabarger; and four sisters, Audrey Meyers, Cordelia Price, Mary Renkel and Gladys Shinabargar.
