Mailbox lid theft leads to arrest of 3 Marshall men

Thursday, September 27, 2007

Three Marshall men were arrested following the Saline County Sheriff's Department investigation into a report of a mailbox lid theft.

Deputies were called to the residence of Judy Brockman of Hardeman to investigate the theft of the lid to her mailbox in the late evening hours of Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Brockman reported she had observed several males at the nearby Countryside Convenience Store. A review of the surveillance system at the store recorded a vehicle and three white males, one of whom was recorded stealing several more signs from the property.

After investigation by the Sheriff's Department, assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Marshall Police Department, a 19-year-old and two 18-year-old suspects were arrested on the Missouri Valley College campus.

The three men were in possession of 22 stolen county road signs, three signs from the city of Marshall, the lid to Brockman's mailbox and another mailbox ornament.

All three were found to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor and face charges of stealing, property damage and possession of intoxicants. Charges are pending.
