James Joseph Meyer, 77, of Brunswick, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Brunswick on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be at Gibson Funeral Home in Brunswick on Tuesday Sept. 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Military honors will be provided by Rucker-McAllister Post 7 American Legion of Brunswick. Pallbearers will be Doug, Jerome, Sam and Christopher Meyer; Chad Wiseman; and Roger White. Honorary pallbearer will be William A. Meyer. Memorials may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
Born Oct. 25, 1929, in Gilliam, he was the son of Edward C. and Cecelia Werner Meyer. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. He had been the manager of MFA Cooperative in Brunswick. Upon retirement he started the Meyer Real Estate and Appraisal Company, which he operated until his death. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Brunswick, an active member of Knights of Columbus, Rucker-McAllister Post 7 American Legion of Brunswick and the VFW Cleve Iman Post 4926.
He is survived by one brother, Daniel Meyer and his wife, Joanne of Gilliam; one sister, Betty Lou Lucas of Kansas City; one sister-in-law, Florence Freiburghouse of Overland Park, Kan.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two half-brothers, Jack and Edward Freiburghouse.
