While the Lady Owls didn't enter a full team, all three contestants improved their times -- with freshman Katie Wells (20:38) and senior Lindie Arends (21:48) medalling, both for the third meet in a row. Wells placed fifth in a field of 26 runners and Arends lowered her time by four seconds while coming in 13th.
Sophomore Cassi Johnson (25:44) placed 25th, but cut her personal best 32 seconds by covering the course nearly four minutes faster than a year ago.
The Marshall boys (46 points) were second to the host Tigers (22), but all six in the line-up set personal records.
Freshman Damon Thompson (17:45) led the Owls' pack in ninth place, with juniors Matt Bledsoe (17:48) and Phillip Perkins (17:54) coming in 11th and 12th -- both slicing over a half-minute off their standards.
Junior Alex Jenkins (18:10) improved over a minute during his 16th-place run and senior Bryan Beck (18:41) and Henry Yeagle (18:44) were 21st and 22nd, respectively.
Marshall claimed five of the top 10 spots in the boys' junior varsity division, with sophomore Patrick Todd (18:34) knocking 26 seconds off his top mark while finishing second in his 2006 debut. Sophomore Keeper Kays (19:42), freshmen Jeremy Jalilvand (19:46) and Bryson Ferguson (19:59), and juniors Brian McClellan (20:06) and Matt Leimkuehler (20:51) also earned medals.
The Lady Owls' JV was led by freshman Chanelle Koehn (24:39) and Lauryn Jones (25:04) in the third and fourth spots.
The annual Marshall Invitational will be held Saturday at the MHS campus.
