Vernon Dale Nester, 74, died Aug. 22, 2007, at Lenoir Woods Care Center in Columbia.

Graveside memorial services were held in Wichita, Kan., on Aug. 27. Remembrances can be sent to Community Hospices of America, 800 Highway 63 North, Columbia, MO 65201. He was born Dec. 29, 1932, in Wichita, to Lloyd Vernon and Reta Maude Nester. He attended school in Wichita and following graduation enrolled at Wichita State University. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from WSU in 1955, followed by a Master of Fine Arts in 1958. Following graduation he served in the United States Army for two years. He was stationed with Army Intelligence in Baltimore and Boston during that time. He worked at the Wichita Art Museum for two years, serving as acting director for one year. He had lived in Marshall since he came in 1961 accepting a position at Missouri Valley College in the art department. He spent 36 years at Missouri Valley where he was an associate professor of art.

Survivors include one brother, Homer Nester of Wichita; one sister, Reta Faye Calkins of Gunnison, Colo.; one nephew; and one grand-nephew.
