Vineda "Sis" Self, 89, of Marshall, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Born March 7, 1918, in Overton, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert A. and Helena Sieckman Korte. On April 10, 1936, she married Delbert H. Self, who preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1988. She had lived in Marshall since 1966, after moving from Arrow Rock, and had worked at Horman Meat Company in Marshall for 19 years. She was a member of the Evangelical Church. She loved hand-quilting.
Survivors include six children, William Leon Self and Mary of Kaukauna, Wis., Evelyn Laxson and her husband, Donnie, Jenny Grapes and her husband, Kenny, and Sylvia O'Bryan and her husband, Bob, all of Marshall, Wanda Marcum and her husband, Larry, of Gravois Mills, and Gene Self and his wife, Jackie, of Warsaw; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Fritz "Boss" Korte and Roger Korte of Pilot Grove, Ben Korte of California, and June Korte of Aurora; two sisters, Viola "Vi" Heislen and Frances Adams of Marshall; nieces and nephews; and extended family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Fletcher "Buss" Korte and Walt Korte; three sisters, Hilda McClellen, Helen Cramer and Nadine Green; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
