Softball/Paris 11, Slater 2

SLATER -- Two softball teams looking for their first wins this season began Lewis and Clark Conference play Tuesday at Slater, with Paris using a seven-run fourth inning to get past the Lady Wildcats, 11-2.

Slater took an early lead on senior Jessica Fleetwood's two-run single in the bottom of the second following a base hit by freshman Marissa Weiher and walk. However, sophomore Kayla Redmon held the Lady 'Cats off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

As might be expected for a team which had committed 28 errors in its previous three games, defensive lapses opened the gates on Slater in the fourth. Back-to-back boots, followed by four straight walks -- two with the bases loaded -- and sophomore Kelsey Heitmeyer's RBI single fueled what would prove to be the game-winning rally for the Lady Coyotes (1-5, 1-0 L&C).

Fleetwood had two hits for the Lady 'Cats (0-4, 0-1), who play a league game Thursday at Marceline.
