Boys' Soccer/Marshall 2, Fulton 1

Friday, August 31, 2007

The Marshall boys' soccer team scored a pair of first-half goals and held on the rest of the way to win its home opener against Fulton, 2-1.

It was the first win by the Owls over its NCMC rival in three years, ending a string of eight straight losses. Marshall broke through six minutes into the match when second Ricardo Lemus fed junior Chris McCoy for a shot into the upper right corner. Six minutes later, Lemus drilled a free kick in from outside the penalty box.

The Owls controlled the first half, but were scrambling down the stretch after senior Nathan Hyde tallied for the Hornets (1-2, 0-2 NCMC) with nine minutes remaining. Marshall enjoyed a 15-8 shot advantage.

The Owls (2-0, 1-0) will be on the road Saturday for an NCMC contest at Hannibal.
