Ronald Keith "Roscoe" Howerton, 55, of Brunswick, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at Gibson Funeral Home in Brunswick, on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Lanny Lybarger and Rev. Jim Lawley will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the Elliott Grove Cemetery in Brunswick. Pallbearers will be Alan Ammon, Jeff Meyer, B.J. Meinhardt, Cliff Perry Steve Hardwick and Derek Schuchmann. Honorary pallbearers will be Willard Caine, Joe Hamilton, Vincent White, Martin List, Bill Scrogin, Steve Atkinson and Dirk Dickerson. Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Born May 3, 1952, in Marshall, he was the son of Maurice and Ruby Murle Self Howerton. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1970. He married Mary Harmon on Oct. 16, 1971, in Carrollton. A few years after his first marriage ended, he married Beth Wahlbrink on Sept. 7, 1996, in Brunswick, who survives of the home. He was a mechanic in various places in Chariton County. He owned and operated Ron's Skelly and Ron's 66 in Brunswick and Roscoe's Garage in Salisbury. He was former Brunswick city councilman and was a member of the Brunswick Clinic Advisory Board. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved to be with his family and many friends.

He is survived by his seven children, Christy Thomas and her husband, Kendall, of Liberty, Chad Howerton and his wife, Jennifer, of Orrick, Janel Schick and her husband, Brian, of Lee's Summit, Nick Howerton of Raytown and Zachary and DeEsta Wahlbrink of Brunswick; his mother, Murle Woolston of Brunswick; two sisters, Ruby Howerton of Triplett and Angie Thoeni and her husband, Wayne of Carrollton; two brothers, Gary Woolston and his wife, Suzanne, of Keytesville and Randy Woolston and his wife, Cindy, of Brunswick; and two grandchildren, Andy Howerton and Kara Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice Howerton and step-father, Nelson Woolston.
