William F. "Bill" Martin, 88, of rural Marshall, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Marshall, with Rev. Dave Huck and Rev. Jack Thomas officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial with military rites will be held in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Born Feb. 19, 1919, in Saline County, he was the son of the late J. Francis Martin and Katherine Thompson Martin. On March 10, 1945, he married Cristine Whitcanack, who survives of the home. He was a lifelong farmer and cattle feeder on a fourth-generation family farm. He attended Sweet Springs Public Schools and served during World War II in the U.S. Army/Air Corps, retiring from the Air Force Reserve as a major. He served on the boards of Chemical Bank, Sweet Springs Hospital, First United Methodist Church and Public Water District No. 1. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Barbee Lodge No. 217 AF & AM in Sweet Springs and Sedalia Shrine Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jim Martin and wife, Jeanne, of Lebanon, Ohio, and Mike Martin and wife, Jane, of rural Marshall; one grandson, Billy Martin of rural Marshall; one sister, Betty Miller of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
