GALLUP, N.M. -- Sisters Bailey and Shea Conner of Malta Bend got to compete in the third annual Wrangler Junior High National Finals Rodeo together for the first time.
Although Bailey (above, left) was making her third appearance in the event for the top sixth- through eighth-graders from the U.S., Canada and Australia, held June 29 to July 1 at Gallup, N.M., Shea (right) was taking her first stab at it.
The girls combined in team roping, but didn't score low enough to make the short "go." Bailey (left) posted a time of 4.16 seconds in the long "go" of breakaway roping, but missed the next time out and didn't make it to the championship round.
Bailey is no longer eligible for the meet, but now moves up to the high school rodeo circuit. Shea, in her first year of qualifying, was elected as the Secretary of the Wrangler National Student Council, representing the 4,000-member strong Wrangler Division in functions around the country through the 2008 Junior National Finals.
