Joe B. Brucks, 89, of Marshall, formerly of Slater, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater. Rev. Michael Penn will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "The Old Rugged Cross," "Peace is Flowing Like a River," and "Like a Shepherd." Burial will be at a later date in Slater City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to The Living Center or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born Sept. 7, 1917, in Dalton, he was the son of the late Joseph B. Brucks Sr. and Anna Schutte Brucks. On Aug. 11, 1946, in Kansas City, he married Mary Lee Johnson; she survives of the home. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater. He owned and operated a grocery and liquor store in Slater for many years, and was a general agent for several life insurance companies until his retirement. He and his wife moved to Marshall from Slater in the mid-1990s.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert J. Brucks of Slater; a daughter, Linda King of Park Hills; two grandsons; a step-grandson; a great-grandson; and two sisters, Marcella Young of Slater and Anna Mae Stallman of Glasgow.
He was preceded in death by a brother, George Brucks; and a sister, Marge Farley.
