James W. "Jim" Summers, 82, of Olathe, Kan., formerly of Shackleford in rural Saline County, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at Johnson County Nursing Center, Olathe, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Services were held at St. Patrick Church in Kansas City on June 18, 2007. Burial took place in Resurrection Cemetery in Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the St. Patrick School Renovation Fund in care of St. Patrick Church, 1357 N.E. 42nd Terrace, Kansas City, are being accepted. Funeral arrangements were handled by McGilley Antioch Chapel.
He was born in Mt. Leonard on Jan. 23, 1925, to Francis and Bridget (Ban) Summers. He was a member of St. Patrick Parish for 53 years; his wife, Rose, survives of the home. He retired from B. F. Goodrich Rubber Company in 1981, after 30 years of service.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by one son, Jim, of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Ann Frownfelter of St. Peters and Helen Leskoff of Olathe; seven grandchildren; one brother, Monsignor Emmett Summers; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Michael and Richard; and one sister, Sister Mary Francene Summers, RSM.
