Carol Jean Laughlin Sumpter, 68, of Jamestown, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at her home near Jamestown.
Services were held at St. Paul's Evangelical Church, Jamestown, on Thursday, July 5, 2007, at 10 a.m. The officiant was Rev. Chester Marshall. Burial was in California City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Community Hospice of America, 2418 Hyde Park Road, Jefferson City, MO 65109. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Service in California.
She was born April 4, 1939, in Kirksville, the daughter of Kenneth and Dorothy Jones Warren who preceded her in death. She was married July 10, 1957, to Kenneth Laughlin, who preceded her in death August 31, 1993. She then was married Dec. 28, 2001, at the home of Rev. Roy Sparks to Phillip Sumpter, who survives at the home. She worked for Marshall Municipal Utilities many years as a billing clerk, retiring in 1994. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Jamestown. She was a 1957 graduate of Marshall High School.
Other survivors include two daughters, Brenda Castle and husband, Ken, of Marshall and Denise Sumler and husband, George, of California; one stepdaughter, Vicki Strope and husband, Jeff, of Holts Summit; one sister, Janice Warren and her two sons, Alan and Mike Harvey, all of Marshall; two half-brothers, Eddie Warren of Moberly and Robbie Warren of Boonville; five grandchildren, Corey Gilmore, Jennifer Gilmore, Jeremy Gilmore, Christian Castle and Kendra Castle; five great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, Cody and Cole Franklin.
