Miami pre-4th celebration defies soggy weather

The city of Miami hosted its 14th annual "Pre-4th of July Celebration" on Saturday, June 30.

A baby contest kicked off the event with 10 entries.

Carlie Knotts, 2, was named princess. She is the daughter of Billy and Lisa Knotts of Miami. Logan Cody, 10 months old, was named prince. He is the son of Sean and Tiesha Cody. Both Knotts and Cody got to ride in the parade.

In the girl's division, Cheyenne Stacy took first in the 7-12 month category. Rayna White took first place in the 13-18 month category and Knotts took first place in the two-year-olds.

In the boy's division, Allen Giannerini took first and Kenneth Bellamy III took second in the 0-6 month category. Cody took first place in the 7-12 month category. In the 13-18 month category, Jonathan Wagner took first and Sawyer Sheets took second. Payton Neville took first and Charles Raney took second in the 19-24 month category.

The parade that took place during the celebration included children's floats, antique engines and tractors, antique cars, bikes, four-wheelers and much more. The event had 19 entries with several turning out to watch the parade.

Bill Hisle of Miami was the grand marshal.

Miami Baptist Church won the children's float division and "Pre-4th Sleep Over" took second. "Mini firefighters" took third.

"Grandma (Liz Elson) and AK" took first in the antique car division.

Jacob Davis took first in the antique engines and tractors division.

"Rednecks Unlimited" won first prize in the comic division.

Due to the rain, some events were canceled. Raffle tickets were sold for several items donated from various merchants.

The day's activities finished with a fireworks display at dusk.

"We had a really good turnout," said Judy Copeland, event organizer. "It lasted aobut a half an hour."

While waiting for the fireworks show, two different bands that included Miami kids provided entertainment for one hour, Copeland said.
