Born on January 17, 1925 in Ernestville, she was the daughter of the late Leonhard and Mabel (nee Reith) Frerking. On April 12, 1945, in Concordia, she married Robert Louis Schumacher, who preceded her in death on April 26, 1998. She had lived in Concordia since 1943, moving from Ernestville. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Concordia. While being a homemaker she also, along with her husband, owned and operated the United Super Grocery Store and later Jim's Drive-In, both in Concordia. She and her husband were recognized by St. Paul's Lutheran School for having a child enrolled in the elementary school continuously for 30 years. She was one of the few that still spoke the German language of the area. Helen was an amazing woman with great strength. She loved listening to hymns and God's word, and enjoying all God's creations.
She is survived by three daughters, Deborah Neumeyer of Ft. Wayne, Ind. Carla Flakne of Londonderry, N.H., and Kathy Dohrman of Sweet Springs; three sons, Rev. Steven Schumacher of Bristol, Conn., Rev. Michael Schumacher of Wexford, Pa., and David Schumacher of Juda, Wis.; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert F. King of Plantation, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Marcus Schumacher; one daughter, Sarah Miller; and two sisters, Valera Zschiegner and LaRue Longinotti.
