Carl Eugene "Gene" Stiek Sr., 71, of Carrollton, passed away Monday, May 28, 2007, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2007, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Marshall, with Pastor Douglas Dubisar officiating. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Carrollton. The family suggests contributions to Heit's Point Lutheran Camp or Saint Paul Lutheran High School's Music and Drama Departments. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. He was born Feb. 4, 1936, in rural Wakenda, the son of Carl William and Minnie Martha Kentch Stiek. He attended Walnut Grove School. On Aug. 23, 1958, he married Sandra Sue Atherton in Carrollton; she survives at the home. He spent his life farming, hunting, fishing, trapping and enjoying the great outdoors. He and his wife spent countless hours being parents, grandparents, and friends to many. The century old Stiek family farm was his home from birth. Gene was in the Army Reserve. He served on the County FSA Board, Eugene Township Board, Wakenda School Board, and various Levy Boards. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Carrollton and served on several church boards.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Carl Eugene Stiek Jr. and wife, Judy, of Marshall, and Mark Alan Stiek and wife, Barbara, of Carrollton; two brothers, James Stiek of Skiatook, Okla., and Gary Stiek of Cabot, Ark.; two sisters, Linda Garcia of George West, Texas, and Janet Flickinger of Excelsior Springs; two grandchildren, Jared Eugene Stiek and Jenna Diane Stiek, both of Marshall; a cousin, Lydia Stiek; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three infant siblings; one brother, Walter William Stiek; two sisters, Phillis Irene Stiek and Ruth Ann Stiek; and one granddaughter, Jana Suzanne Stiek.
