Oliver E. Laffoon, 93, of Slater, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 19, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. Donald Simmons will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "How Great Thou Art," and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Pallbearers will be Tim Aldredge, Merlin Aldredge, Zach Aldredge, Robert Morrow, Jerry Belshe and Leroy Wise. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Aldredge, Howard Wehrman, Harold Morrow, Charlie Guthrie and George Stafford. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to New Salem Baptist Church Furnace Fund or Slater Senior Center.
Born December 12, 1913, in Slater, he was the son of the late Harry and Lula Fansler Laffoon. On March 27, 1948, in Marshall, he married Wilma Belshe; she survives of the home. He was a member of First Christian Church in Marshall. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post Number 78 of Slater and V.F.W. Post Number 4367 of Slater. He retired in 1984 after 31 years of service at the U.S. Postal Service in Slater. He was a lifelong Slater resident.
