Flood report/May 9

There is a "significant flooding event" occurring across the area, according to the National Weather Service. Storms produced a large swath of 3 to 5 inches of rainfall across northwest Missouri Sunday, May 6. Numerous streams and rivers are flooding, and with the ground already saturated any additional rainfall will create the potential for flash flooding.

Missouri River at Waverly (flood stage is 20 feet):

-- At 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, the stage was 27.7 feet;

-- Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast;

-- The river is expected to continue rising to near 28.2 feet by Wednesday afternoon, May 9, then begin falling.

Missouri River at Miami (flood stage is 18 feet):

-- At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, the stage was 29 feet;

-- Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.

-- The river will continue rising to near 29.5 feet by Thursday morning, May 10, then begin falling.

Missouri River at Glasgow (flood stage is 25 feet):

-- At 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, the stage was 32.9 feet;

-- Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.

-- The river is expected to continue rising to near 36.1 feet by Saturday morning, May 12, then begin falling.

Blackwater River near Blue Lick (flood stage is 24 feet):

-- At 9:45 a.m. Wednesday the stage was 26 feet;

-- Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast;

-- The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by Thursday morning, May 10.
