Arnold W. Burns, 96, of Richmond, died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at First United Methodist Church, Richmond, with Rev. Don Smith officiating. Pallbearers are Brian K. Burns, Richard Williams, John Branstetter, Bob Thompson, Harold Johnson, John Tomlin, David Huffine and John Jones. Burial will be in Woods Chapel Cemetery in Odessa. The family will receive friends from noon Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Richmond. Memorial contributions may be made to Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Odessa, or Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
He was born Sept. 16, 1910, in Ray County in the Cowgill area, the son of William T. Burns and Hattie E. Richardson Burns. He was a graduate of Central Methodist College. He served the following Methodist churches: Washington Circuit; Cowgill Circuit; Ravenwood-Wilcox; Seymour, Iowa; Mitchelville, Iowa; Hardin; Monroe City; Huntsville; King City; Weston; Smithville; Stanberry; and White Avenue Methodist Church in Kansas City. He served the Methodist church as pastor and minister for over 38 years. After retiring, he served as the minister of visitation for First United Methodist Church of Marshall from 1976 to 1991. He and his wife have resided at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond since 2002.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Ralph A. Burns of Ballwin; a daughter, Evelyn Elaine Frazier of Vallejo, Calif.; 3 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred I. Jones Burns; and three sister, Mae Burns, Maude Williams and Amanda Goll.
