Stella M. Cordes, 79, of Sweet Springs, died Monday, April 30, 2007, at Sweet Springs Villa.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2007, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Sweet Springs. Rev. Tommy Mapes will officiate. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Born May 25, 1927, in Sedalia, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Hess and Isadora Breshears Hess. On August 30, 1952, she married Lloyd C. Cordes, who survives of the home. She had lived in Sweet Springs since 1991 having spent many years in Kansas City, where she worked for Russell Stover Candies. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sweet Springs, Rebekah Lodge in Independence and was a quilter. She was a part of 22 fifth generations.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Judy Larimore of Sweet Springs and Mary Lucille Sharp of Warsaw; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ina Jean Lange of Houstonia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter and several siblings.
