Allegri said that the event should become self-supporting financially.
"The city financed it one time," Allegri said. "Now we're looking at making it self-supporting. I think it's real important to point out no events would have taken place if the city hadn't put seed money in them. Now they are self-supporting."
In other business, re-elected council members Terry Jordan, Ron Monnig and Brownell Bryant were sworn in.
Bryant was then voted mayor pro tem of the council.
The council then discussed the open position for the unoccupied Ward 1 council seat. The seat remains open because no one filed for the position. Write-in voters selected former council member Charlie Guthrie, who turned down the position. Steve Taylor received the second most write-in votes and he, too, declined the seat.
Allegri said the next step was to appoint someone to the position. He said he was given some names of possible candidates and he would start contacting them.
In other business, the council looked at bids for trash collection services Bids were received from Waste Corporation of America of Sedalia and Veolia of Macon.
The board discussed the bids and agreed to table the issue until the next meeting.
Council member Ron Monnig updated the board on plans for the upcoming arts event in Slater. Monnig said that artist Alan J. Slater will be in town from May 7-12, 2007. The event is scheduled to include numerous activities, including an art show and food and drinks. More information on the event is available at www.cityofslater.com
