He was born Aug. 26, 1932, in Stover, to August and Paula Schroeder. He was employed by International Shoe Factory in Marshall, for 16 years. His family moved in 1964 to Merced, Calif., and it was there that he began working in construction on the McClure Dam until he injured his back. He enjoyed fishing and would take his boys, or anyone else for that matter, out to fish and to socialize. He was a member of and attended St. Paul Lutheran Church for numerous years until he became too ill. He was very easy-going and loved to make friends. In fact, he would use his walker to go down to the corner just to wave to those who passed by. He always had a good joke or something humorous to share with those around him. He had a tremendous will to live and fought hard during his last months just to be able to spend time with his loving wife, sons and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gloria (Pinkepank) Schroeder; two sons, Stan Schroeder of Merced and Steve Schroeder of Merced; a sister, Shirley Antener; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joyce Robertson and brother-in-law, Harold Antener.
