Over 150 science exhibits filled the Malta Bend High School gym on Wednesday, March 14, for the 2007 CCAA Science Fair.

Students from all seven conference schools participated in the event.

The participants were divided into junior and senior divisions.

The exhibits dealt with eight separate science disciplines, which included botany, ecology, medical/health, zoology, behavioral science, chemistry/biochemistry, earth/space science and physical/engineering.

Entries were judged on scientific thought, creativity, understanding, clarity and dramatic value.

Winners in each category received ribbons. Grand prize winners received medals and will have the chance to compete in a regional science fair on the campus of Central Missouri University in Warrensburg.

Ninth-grader Lacy Peterson of Pilot Grove won the first place medal in the Junior Division for her ecology exhibit "Survival of the Fittest."

In the Senior Division, 10th-grader Olivia Aggelen won the first-place medal for her chemistry exhibit "Transformation of E. coli with Firefly Plasmid."

Malta Bend senior Cody Clemons received a second place ribbon in the senior-division for his physics project "Current, Current, Where are You?"

Malta Bend sixth-grader Daniel Kiehl won a second-place ribbon in the junior division for his "Soil Erosion" project.
