Ruth E. Thomas, 96, of Sedalia, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Vincent Hoying officiating. Pallbearers will be Larry Thomas, Mark Thomas, Collin Thomas, Todd Garst, Jim Cooney and Jack Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Jane Stewart, Julie Fischer, Ruby Stanfield, Frances Messerly, Ann Mae Cain, Helen Evans, Dorothy Eken, Faith Lovell, Opal Walters, Marilyn Duzan, Bea Maple, Barbara George, Mary Alice Malmo and Pat Heerman. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel. The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. with visitation to follow. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sacred Heart Church, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
She was born Jan. 8, 1911, in Sedalia, the daughter of William Tillman and Rebecca Lillis Yaple Crain. On Nov. 22, 1927, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sedalia, she was married to John A. Thomas, who preceded her in death on May 24, 2006. She attended Sedalia public schools and co-owned and operated with her husband Thomas Pastry Shop from 1956 to 1964. She worked for Bing's Bakery from 1966 to 1970, Bischel's Jewelry from 1970 to 1980 and Sedalia Fruit Company from 1981 until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 60 years and was an active member of the Sedalia Country Club for 35 years. She enjoyed traveling, playing golf and was an avid bridge player.
She is survived by two children, John "Bud" Thomas of Sedalia, and Rebecca Garst of Marshall; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one nephew.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Neta Crain Weigand, Goldie Crain Welch and Nina Crain Morris.
