John E. Staton, 91, of Marshall, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2007, at Sweeney Reser Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. The Rev. Jerry Scott will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Saline County. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Sweeney Reser Wills Funeral Home.
He was born Jan. 7, 1916, at Wakenda, the son of the late Arthur and Minny Wheeler Staton. He farmed all of his life and was a resident of Marshall for many years. He was a member of Olivet Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, John M. Staton of Marshall and Carl H. Staton of Marshall; four daughters, Florence L. Blackerby of Sweet Springs, Twyline F. Ballew of Marshall, Martha T. Green of Boonville and Venessa G. Plaggemyer of Kadoka, S.D.; two sisters, Roberta Knott of Carrollton and Goldie Cossins of Bolivar; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.
