Charles M. O'Neal, 95, of Marshall, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church near Marshall. The Rev. John Pinkston will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Smith Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bradley O'Neal, Stephanie O'Neal Beck, Staff Sgt. Michael Ladd, Ryan Ladd, Jeffrey O'Neal and Kelly O'Neal. Honorary pallbearers will be Marion Arni, Bill Werneke, J.L. Pulliam, Kevin Riggs, Bill Stouffer, Wayne Shannon and Sam Davis. Born Jan. 29, 1912, in Paris, he was the son of the late Emmett C. O'Neal and Ethel Pennington O'Neal. On Feb. 2, 1935, he married Virginia Clough, who survives of the home. He had lived in Saline County since 1928, was a 1930 graduate of Marshall High School and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a farmer for most of his life and had also worked for JC Penney, was manager of MFA Grocery Store and retired from MFA Livestock where he was office manager. He was a member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church where he was very active serving in every office of the church. He was a charter member of the Saline County Young Farmers Association, Marshall FFA Association, Missouri Farm Bureau and had served on school boards in Thorp, Napton and Elgin R-12 Schools.
Additional survivors include two sons, Wayne O'Neal of rural Marshall and Gary O'Neal of Richmond; one daughter, Karen O'Neal Ladd of Jacksonville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
