Joseph B. Ayers, 88, of Marshall, formerly of Columbia, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at University Hospital & Clinics in Columbia.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at Calvary Baptist Church in Marshall. Burial with military honors will follow at 3 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22 at Calvary Baptist Church in Marshall. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the charity of donor's choice. He was born April 3, 1918, in Danvers, Ill., to Joseph W. and Imogen Amsbury Ayers; they preceded him in death. He was married to Annalee Augspurger on Feb. 28, 1943, in Bloomington, Ill.; she survives of the home. He was a member of the Army Air Corps and served from 1943-46 in World War II. He was a 1937 graduate of Bloomington High School in Bloomington, Ill., and was employed for 37 years with State Farm Insurance until his retirement in 1983. He worked as a volunteer at Columbia Regional Hospital for 18 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Marshall.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Rodney Ayers of Cerritos, Calif., and Steve Ayers of St. Joseph; daughter, Barbara Bach of Moberly; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and a granddaughter.
