Velma H. Detmer, 92, of Pryor, Okla., formerly of the Arrow Rock community, died Thursday, February 15, 2007, at Shady Rest Care Center in Pryor.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2007, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Rev. Jack Nester will officiate. Friends may call Monday after 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Born Aug. 23, 1914, in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. Hinnah and Amanda Fischer Hinnah. On Feb. 25, 1934, she married W. Leonard Detmer, who preceded her in death on May 28, 1960. She had lived in Marshall since 1974, moving from Nelson, and had lived in Pryor since July 2006. She had cooked at Arrow Rock School, Arrow Rock Country Store and at McKay's Wings from 1973 to 1981. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Women's Guild, in which she held offices, and a member of the Canasta Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Nester and husband, Jack, of Salina, Okla.; three grandchildren, Brenda Brunk and husband, Jeremy, Neal Nester and wife, Holly, and Eric Nester; six great-grandchildren, Brendan, Bret, Jordan and Jenna Brunk and Danielle and Raeleigh Nester; one brother, Earl "Bill" Hinnah and wife, Marilyn, of rural Gilliam; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother in infancy; two brothers, one in childhood, Leonard Hinnah, and Otto Hinnah; and two sisters, one in childhood, Ella Hinnah, and Geneva Janneck.
