Louis W. Harris, 92, of Slater, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at 11 a.m., at Slater United Methodist Church. Rev. Jess Spurgin will officiate. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Venable, Stephen Smith, Jim Ed Peel, Kim Taylor, Harry Whitlock and Jim Tyre. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to Slater United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 78 or Slater Veteran's Memorial Park.
Born June 22, 1914, in Sharon, he was the son of the late Johnnie W. and Fannie Cundiff Harris. On July 14, 1942, in Tucson, Ariz., he married Mary E. Carter, who preceded him in death on June 24, 1998. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Sharon and attended Slater United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 78 and VFW Post 4367, both in Slater. He was a retired farmer and lifelong Slater area resident.
He is survived by a daughter, Lois Ann Summers and her husband, Billy, of rural Gilliam; four grandchildren, William L. "Bud" Summers and his wife Kim, of Slater, Brent Summers and his wife, Shelle, of Rogers, Ark., Joe Summers and his wife, Tori, of Marshall, and Kristen Meyer and her husband, Greg, of Marshalltown, Iowa; 8 great-grandchildren, Adrian Summers, Kaleigh Summers, Allea Summers, Evan Summers, Blake Summers, Isaac Summers, Lillianne Summers and Ian Meyer
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerry F. Harris; four brothers, Wilbur Harris, J. D. Harris, Robert Harris and John Harris Jr.; and a sister, Anna Grotjan.
