The Marshall High School Jazz Band will help kick off a weekend of excitement as the University of Missouri-Kansas City's annual Jazz Festival Concert begins, Friday, Feb. 2, in Kansas City. During the course of the festival, the high school musicians will join world-renowned trombonist Robin Eubanks and Kansas City's own Bobby Watson in a schedule of events.
The Marshall group will perform at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Feb 2, in Pierson Auditorium of the UMKC University Center. Marshall is one of only a dozen or so schools invited to showcase its talents through the weekend. The performance is free and open to the public, as are the clinics and adjudicated performances scheduled during the two days of the festival.
Other festival events include the 30th Annual George Salisbury Memorial Scholarship Concert with special guest Robin Eubanks. Eubanks, the brother of Kevin Eubanks, of "The Tonight Show," is considered the premier jazz trombonist of his generation. He will perform under the direction of Bobby Watson with the UMKC Conservatory Concert Jazz Band at 7:30 p.m. in Pierson Auditorium. Tickets are priced from $8 to $50, and are available by calling the UMKC Central Ticket Office at (816) 235-6222.
