Alice M. Maher, 86, of Slater, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater. Father David Maher and Father Michael Penn will officiate. Organist Bethany Weiker will play, "The Lord's Prayer," "Be Not Afraid," "Gentle Mother, " and "Largo." Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matt Thies, Seth Berry, Luke Thies, Damian Thies, Ross Thies and Edward Grimes. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Born Sept. 18, 1921, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Oliver M. and Esther Keyton Johnson. On March 26, 1942, in Lee's Summit, she married Robert Q. Grimes; he preceded her in death on March 15, 1983. On Nov. 23, 1990, in Slater, she married Vincent P. Maher; he preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 2006. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a lifelong Slater area resident.
She is survived by three daughters, Robin Thies of Glasgow, Judy Akeman of Neosho and Becky Kern of Maysville; nine stepsons, Father David Maher of Taos, Patrick Maher of Temecula, Calif., Phil Maher of Moreland, Ga., Dennis Maher of Tampa, Fla., Paul Maher of Fort Worth, Texas, Bill Maher of Liberty, Dan Maher of Centerville, Ohio, Tom Maher of Nixa and Bob Maher of Lenexa, Kan.; seven grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joann Berlekamp of Springfield and Eleanor Sauret of Sunset City Center, Fla.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Johnson.
