Donald Lee Leimkuehler, 74, of rural Slater, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at Salem United Church of Christ in Saline County. Tony Gallagher and William W. Harlow will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial with military rites will be held in the church cemetery. Born Sept. 12, 1932, in rural Slater, he was the son of the late George Leimkuehler and Alma Kiso Leimkuehler. On Jan. 4, 1953, he married Janice Lee Shepard, who preceded him in death Jan. 16, 2005. He had lived in rural Slater his entire life and was a 1951 graduate of Slater High School. He was a retired mechanic having worked for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad and Standard Haven. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 78 in Slater. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Leimkuehler of rural Slater; one son, Paul Leimkuehler of Marshall; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one brother, Roland "Buddy" Leimkuehler of rural Gilliam; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ann Leimkuehler; one brother, Amiel Leimkuehler; and one sister, Lorene Thomason.
