Helen L. Graves, 90, of Slater, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at Mar-Saline Manor Care Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul Free Will Baptist Church in Slater. Elder Wellington J. Gorham Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Michael Williams, Zarrick Michael Williams, James L. Williams Jr., Michael S. Williams, James D. Gorham and Dontrel Gorham. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born Jan. 11, 1916, in Napton, she was the daughter of the late Wellington S. and Louise Bentley Wells. She was married to Leslie Williams, Jr. and Forrest Graves, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a member of the St. Paul Free Will Baptist Church in Slater, where she had served as pianist for the Senior Choir. She had attended Napton Public Schools and Lincoln University in Jefferson City. She retired after 28 years of service at Banquet Foods in Marshall, and later worked in the foster grandparent program at Slater schools.
She is survived by two sons, Wellington J. Gorham Sr. of Slater and James Leslie Williams of Marshall; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Banks, of San Francisco, Calif. She was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother, and a granddaughter.
