Donald Lee Wilson, 72, of Marshall, passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, in Marshall.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall. Fr. Kevin Gormley will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. A private family burial will be held. Memorials may be made to Butterfield Youth Services or Mt. Born Jan. 16, 1934, in Marshall, he was the son of the late George Alva Wilson and Wana Henderson Wilson. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1957 aboard the U.S.S. Boxer. On Sept. 5, 1959, he married Ann Egan, who survives of the home. He graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and in 1969 he received a master's degree in Social Work from the University of Missouri-Columbia. After a brief career in teaching, Don worked most of his life as a social worker, being employed at the Marshall State School and Hospital and the VA Medical Center in Columbia, retiring in 1995. He volunteered for many organizations, including the Marshall Parks and Recreation Board, St. Peter School Board, Big Brothers, Butterfield Youth Services Board, Saline County Health Department and the Adult Literacy Program.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, their spouses and eight grandchildren: Michael Wilson and wife, Stacy, and children, Sarah and Matthew of Leawood, Kan.; Susan Wilson Essman and husband, Tom, and children Hank and Joseph of Springfield; Gregg Wilson and wife, Michaela, and children Fletcher, Oscar, Olivia and Mallory of Republic; and Julie Wilson Watterson and husband, Mark, of Springfield; a brother, Joe Wilson and wife, Donna, of Independence; his aunt and uncle, Gladys and Alva Morrow of Hermitage; and nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
