Don Messerly, 66, of rural Marshall, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at home.
Cremation. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with military rites. William W. Harlow will officiate. Burial will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 14, at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to American Legion Post No. 191 in Marshall or Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice.
Born Nov. 6, 1940, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Louis F. Messerly and Lucille Seaton Messerly. On July 3, 1998, he married Brenda Gibson Carmack, who survives of the home. He was a 1965 graduate of Florida State University with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering, and was an electrical contractor. He was a friend of Bill W. for over 20 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from February 1958 to August 1965 and was a member of American Legion Post 191. He was a lifetime member of the American Motorcycle Association and the Moto Guzzi National Owner Club.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Valynda Ducich and husband, Doug, of Moberly, and Kim Behrends and husband, Jamie, of Marshall; two sons, Mark Messerly and wife, Anna, of St. Louis, and Terry Carmack of Columbia; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Pollock of Charlottesville, Va., and Georgetta Bohnsack of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Messerly, and one son, Maurice Dale "Moose" Carmack.
