James J. "Whitie" Peterman, 82, of Marshall, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at the Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. The Rev. Duane Davis will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tom Garner, Kenn Garner, Tim Helzer, Paul Peterman, Tommy Bakert and John Bakert. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home. Burial with military graveside services will be at Hazel Grove Cemetery in Herndon.
He was born April 9, 1924, in Sweet Springs, the son of the late John and Mollie Bakert Peterman. He served in the 6th Infantry in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded a medal of honor. He had been a resident of Saline County for most of his life and had been employed at ConAgra for 18 years before his retirement.
He is survived by one sister, Mary Garner of Harrisonville, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
