Kenneth L. Sayers, 59, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.
He was born Aug. 19, 1947, in Marshall, to the late Lyndon and Frances I. (Brown) Sayers. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1965 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He married Janice Crook on Dec. 10, 1967; she preceded him in death in May 2005. Sayers was a retail manager for Sutherland Lumber Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1998.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Christner of Neola, Iowa, and Tina Knauss of Council Bluffs; three grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Bauer of Topeka, Kan., and Margaret Alfrey of Marshall; two brothers, Kelly Whitney of Russellville, Ark., and Roy Phillips of Marshall; and nieces and nephews.
