Ethelyn "Susie" Carrender, 78, of Sweet Springs, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at Sweet Springs Villa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct., 12, 2006, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs. Rev. Alfred Rodewald will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Sweet Springs. Family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Missions or Immanuel Lutheran Sunday School.
Born Jan. 15, 1928, in Brinkville, she was the daughter of the late Martin J. Meyer and Caroline Schelp Meyer. On June 26, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs, she married Thomas Carrender, who survives of the home. She had lived in the Sweet Springs area most of her life. She had worked at International Shoe Factory for many years and was a homemaker. She later became involved in the Meals on Wheels program where she served for nine years. She was a 50-year charter member of the Sweet Springs American Legion Auxiliary. In addition to her civic activities, she was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 49 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Robert Wayne Carrender of rural Sedalia, and John Allen Carrender of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Linda Carrender Steelman of Blue Springs; and six grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Carrender, in infancy; and one sister, Delores Harms.
