Velma E. Jones, 74, of Nelson, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at The Living Center in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at the Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. The Rev. Nathan Argent will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Organist Mike Williams will accompany Britney Jones on the clarinet as they play "Amazing Grace," "In the Garden," and "Somewhere Out There." Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Allen Jones and Carl Lewis Jones II. Pallbearers will be Lee Jones, Zachary Jones, Luke Gieschen for Kendall Jones, James Lundy, Chris Brandt and James Jones. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home.

She was born July 23, 1932, at Lost Corners, the daughter of the late Walter James Hanlin and Else Pearl Jeffries Hanlin. On Dec. 16, 1948, she married Vernon L. Jones at Nelson; he survives of the home. She was a resident of Nelson for most of her life, and had farmed with her husband for many years. She had been employed by McGraw-Edison in Boonville for 37 years.

Survivors in addition to her husband include three sons, Robert L. Jones of Marshall, Carl Lewis Jones of Marshall and James Dean Jones of Marshall; one sister, Elsie Dean Allen of Nelson; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, two grandsons, a brother and a sister.
