Ralph Hayes, 89, of Marshall, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at the Handy Chapel A.M.E. Church of Marshall. Rev. John Brown will officiate. Sister Lois Laster will be the soloist. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Marshall. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Handy Chapel A.M.E. Green Funeral Chapel of Marshall is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Nov. 18, 1916, in rural Saline County, the son of Willie and Mable Hayes. He married Thelma Bell on Feb., 26, 1942.
He attended school in Saline County, and worked at the Red Comb Mill and Wood & Huston Bank. He was a lifelong resident of Saline County, and a member of Handy Chapel A.M.E. Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Eugene Carter and wife Roberta, Denver, Colo.; sister Melba Tolson, Kansas City; sister Voncille Madison of Kansas City; sister-in-law Rose Rigsby, Marshall; sister-in-law Roberta Bell, Marshall; sister-in-law Arzelia Burns, Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
