Brenda J. Monnig, 59, of Gillam, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at 11 a.m., at the Bethel Evangelistic Center in Slater. Rev. David L. Duncan will officiate. Bethany Weiker, pianist, will accompany Gerald Gerhard in singing "Amazing Grace." Burial will be in the Gilliam Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James "Buddy" Griffith, Russell F. "Gene" Griffith, Graham Fizer, Ronnie Bird, Shane Brewer and Jeff Aholt. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas Swan, Lance Gibson, Joshua Swan, Chad Gibson, Stephen Monnig, Patrick Swan, Travis Cramer and Kent Gibson. Visitation will be Monday from 7 until 9 p.m. at the Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials to the Big Bend Retreat are suggested.
Born Oct. 24, 1946, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Alfred C. (Doc) and Lorene Bailey Fizer. On April 21, 1974, she married Tom Monnig in Slater. She was the laundry room supervisor at Big Bend Retreat for 23 years, and had lived in Saline County her entire life.
Surviving are her husband; two sons, Kevin Cramer, Gilliam and Mitch Monnig, Henderson, Nev.; two daughters, Jana Rossman, Marshall, and Michele Swan, Brunswick; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, Bruce Fizer, Kansas City, and Greg Fizer, Slater.
