Vernon W. Klein, 83, of Kansas City, passed away Sept. 20, 2006, at his home.
He has been cremated. Inurnment and graveside remembrance will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Marshall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, Mo. 64114.
He was born May 11, 1923, in Miami, to William S. and Clara (Carr) Klein. He served in the Army during World War II, where he was involved with the creation of the "Ghost Army." He graduated from Missouri Valley College. He worked as an engineer for the Great Lakes Pipeline, Mid-West Research Institute, and as a private contractor for the U.S. Government doing studies on mine safety. He retired as a systems engineer for Marion Laboratories.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta L. (Stanley) Klein, of the home; a son, Vernon A. "Tony" Klein of Kansas City; a daughter, Kaitlin Post and her husband Mike Kelly of Columbia; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
