Wendell W. Betz, 76, of Chillicothe, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at the Indian Hills Retirement Village of Chillicothe, where he has resided since June 23.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at the Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton. Brother Stan Richardson will officiate. Burial will be in the South Evans Cemetery northeast of Trenton. A visitation is scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Open visitation will begin Tuesday at 9 a.m. Memorial donations are to be made to the Galt Christian Church, and may be left at the funeral home.
He was born in the South Evans community north of Trenton, on Aug. 5, 1930, to Elmer Charles and Thora Thorstenson Betz. He was the youngest of 11 children. On Apr. 3, 1951, he was united in marriage to Dixie Donoho in Harrison, Ark. They farmed until he retired in 1976 due to bad health. Betz served as president of the Laredo school board, was a board member of the Production Credit Association and served in the United States Army. He was also a member of the Galt Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dixie, of Chillicothe; five children, Mike Betz and Barb Peterson of Laredo, Cathy Betz of Liberty, Rex Betz of Marshall, and Kevin Betz of Spokane, Wash.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
