Oleta G. Mires, 86, of Marshall, formerly of Hooker, Okla., died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Ed Broyles will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Literacy Council or charity of donor's choice.

Born March 6, 1920, in Ringling, Okla., she was the daughter of the late Russell R. Miller and Della I. Johnson Miller. She met her future husband, Ralph Mires, while they were students at Oklahoma University. They were married on June 1, 1941, and they cherished 62 years together. Ralph preceded her in death on November 24, 2003. In addition to farming, Ralph and Oleta managed the Mires & Sons Hardware in Hooker before opening the Mires & Sons Implement dealership. Later Oleta worked for Ideal Grocery and Kansas-Nebraska Oil Company. After her retirement, she and Ralph moved to Missouri to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Oleta was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was proud to have served several years as Mother Advisor to the Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She was also active in Al-Anon. She was a member of the Church of Christ. While living in Missouri she volunteered at Van Meter State Park and the Literacy Council. She enjoyed raising roses, fishing, spending time with her grandchildren, and playing with her dog Sam.

Survivors include three daughters, Irene Baird and husband Larry of Ponca City, Okla., Carol VanSteenburgh and husband Paul of Hughesville and Tommie Lou Pearson of Rolla; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; her dear friend, Flo Wilson of Napton; several nieces and nephews; and her dog, Sam.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Gene Mires, and five brothers.
