Leo H. Grothaus Sr., of Laurie, passed away on Aug. 27, 2006, from congestive heart failure. He was born on Nov. 6, 1930, to Leo D. Grothaus and Lillie S. Grothaus in Washington. He attended and graduated from St. Francis Borgia High School in Washington. He served honorably in 1950 and 1951 in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and received a medical discharge. He attended the Catholic Church and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was employed by Kroger Grocery Stores, Sunshine Biscuit Company, the State of Missouri and Rand McNally Map Company. He was a real estate broker and worked in sales and management positions.

He is survived by his wife Sheila A. Grothaus; her children, George and wife Jaqurien Hirner; Gabrielle Hirner; and Simon and wife Julie Hirner; and Leo's six children; Leo H. Grothaus, Jr. and wife Sherri; Paul G. Grothaus; David M. Grothaus and wife Pamela; Amy L. Grothaus; Theresa K. Edwards and husband James; and Mark A. Grothaus and wife Marjorie; 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sisters; Rose M. Westbrook and husband Donn; Bernadette G. Fortner and husband Richard; 11 nieces and nephews, and 10 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Marilyn Twamley and grandchild, Claire Edwards.

He will be greatly missed but will always remain in our hearts. Military graveside urn burial services are pending.
