Russell Hibbard Jr., 77, of Slater, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2006 at the Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. Mike Hibbard will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "Amazing Grace". Burial with military honors will be in the Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Hibbard, Gary Hibbard, Rick Hibbard, Gene Holt, Leroy Wise and Corky Perkins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Baker, Roy Eddy, Jr. and Edward Grimes. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Victory Junction Gang in care of the Weiker Funeral Home.
Born April 23, 1929, in Kansas City, he was the son of the late Ira Alfred Russell Hibbard, Sr. and Pearl Peel Hibbard. On June 6, 1972, in Fayette, he married Joyce A. Vuilcot, and she survives of the home.
Also surviving are three daughters, Carol Hatton and her husband Dwayne, of Pleasant Hill, Brenda Lee McGinnis of Warsaw and Theresa Ellsworth and her husband Bill of Blue Springs; two step-daughters, Gayla Barb and her husband Roy, of Huntsville and Brenda Finney and her husband Larry, of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; a step-son, Curtis Rambin and his wife Tammy, of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Roy Hibbard of rural Slater and James Hibbard of Pahrump, Nev. He was preceded in death by two infant daughters, four brothers and a sister.
Mr. Hibbard was a member of the Fish Creek Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and had raced sprint cars for over 20 years. He was a mechanic with Hall & Riley Rock Quarry for 40 years until his retirement.
