Wilbert Blumhorst, 78, of Slater, died Thursday Aug. 10, 2006, at the Big Bend Retreat Nursing Home in Slater.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church in Slater. Rev. Mark Hass will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will accompany the congregation in singing "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me." Burial will be in the Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bryan Leimkuehler, Marc Leimkuehler, Jeremy Blumhorst, Wil Blumhorst, Chris Blumhorst and Gary Blumhorst. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at the church, where the family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the church, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born, Jan. 25, 1928, in Slater, he was the son of the late Chris H. and Alberta Klasing Blumhorst. On Sept. 26, 1948, in Saline City, he married Velma Gerloff and she survives of the home.

Also surviving is a son, Tom Blumhorst and his wife Kathy of Marshall; three daughters, Connie Narron and her husband Ron of rural Gilliam, Linda Leimkuehler of Marshall and Carol Roder of Columbia; four grandsons, Bryan Leimkuehler, Marc Leimkuehler, Jeremy Blumhorst and Wil Blumhorst; two step-granddaughters, Samantha Jo Narron and Megan Narron; three great-grandchildren, Chloe Blumhorst, Noah Blumhorst and Owen Blumhorst; two brothers, Robert Blumhorst and his wife, Delores, of rural Slater, and Kenneth Blumhorst and his wife, Ailene, of rural Nelson; and a sister, Nellie Moon and her husband Robert of Sedalia. He was preceded in death by a son, David Wayne Blumhorst.

Mr. Blumhorst was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Slater. He was a retired farmer and cattleman, and had served on the board of directors of the Slater Co-op No.1 and the Orearville School Board. He had moved to Slater in 1992, from a farm in rural Slater.
