Kiwanis to sponsor blood drive Aug. 17

The Marshall Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a blood drive Thursday, Aug. 17, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Clubhouse on the east side of the square in Marshall.

Eligible donors are encouraged to give, especially those with O type blood, either O negative or O positive, which is important because it can be given in transfusions to more than 80 percent of patients needing blood.

In Missouri, healthy individuals who are at least 17 years old and weight 110 pounds or more are eligible to donate blood.

For more information, call (800) GIVE-LIFE or visit www.americanredcrossblood.org.

The deadline is Sept. 15 and entries must contain a cover sheet with the author's name, address, phone number and a short paragraph about the writer, explaining his or her connection to Saline County.

Manuscripts may be mailed to Authorene Phillips, Route 1, Box 196, Marshall, Mo., 65340, or sent by e-mail to phillips57@murlin.com.
